Kodagu Scientist Invited to Queen Elizabeth Prize Ceremony at St James’s Palace

New Delhi: Kodagu-born clinician scientist Dr Navita Somaiah has been invited by the British royal family to attend the conferment of the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Prize for Higher and Further Education on the Institute of Cancer Research. The honour, considered the United Kingdom’s highest national recognition in the field of academia and research, will be presented at St James's Palace on February 24. The ceremony will be presided over by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), London, has been acknowledged for its consistent excellence in teaching, pioneering research and clinical trials that have reshaped global standards of care. Its contributions in the treatment of breast, prostate and head-and-neck cancers have had far-reaching international impact. Dr Somaiah currently serves at the institute as a clinician scientist and group leader.
Born to Kannanda Ponappa Somaiah and Dr Kannanda Nirmala Somaiah, Dr Somaiah began her schooling in Delhi at Springdales School and later Delhi Public School. She secured All-India Rank 3 in the national medical entrance examination and went on to study at Maulana Azad Medical College.
