Madikeri: The Kodagu District Police has issued a stern warning against individuals creating public nuisance under the guise of festivities during the upcoming ‘Boad nammel’ at the Ayyappa Bhadrakali Temple in Devarapura village. According to an official press release issued by the Superintendent of Police, Kodagu District, strict legal action will be initiated against violators to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
The traditional festival, scheduled for May 28, 2026, falls under the jurisdiction of the Gonikoppal Police Station in Ponnampet Taluk. Historically, devotees donning unique costumes from various parts of Kodagu and neighboring districts visit the temple to fulfill their vows.
However, the police noted a troubling trend where certain disguised individuals consume excessive alcohol and harass the public. Citing these concerns, the press release states that it has been observed that some disguised people consume excessive liquor and harass shopkeepers in Gonikoppal town and Thittimathi area demanding money. They block vehicles and members of the public and behave indecently using abusive language with merchants, owners, and especially women.
The Kodagu Police has made it clear that such unruly behavior under the pretext of tradition will not be tolerated. The Superintendent of Police, Bindu Mani R.N. emphasised that anyone found blocking traffic, extorting money, or misbehaving with women and traders will face immediate and stringent legal consequences as per the law.
