Kodagu Youth Hold Protest in Support of Sonam Wangchuk, Express Solidarity with Delhi Protest Over Exam Leaks

Few residents of Virajpet held a peaceful protest and awareness campaign in support of the thousands of mostly young protesters marching towards Parliament in New Delhi.

Virajpet: Supporters of activist Sonam Wangchuk and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) gathered near the Virajpet Clock Tower in Kodagu on Monday morning to express solidarity with the ongoing nationwide protests demanding reforms to India's examination system and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over recent examination paper leaks.

Few residents of Virajpet held a peaceful protest and awareness campaign in support of the thousands of mostly young protesters marching towards Parliament in New Delhi. The gathering also expressed support for Sonam Wangchuk, the engineer and social activist who had been on a 20-day hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in support of the CJP before being hospitalised, an event that intensified protests across the country.

Speaking to The Kodagu Express, organiser and Virajpet resident Safwan Abdul Saleem said the protest was aimed at highlighting the impact of the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and demanding accountability.

"Several students have lost their lives following the stress caused by the NEET-UG paper leak controversy and repeated examination cancellations. We organised this awareness campaign in Virajpet to stand with students across the country. We want accountability from the Education Minister over why examination papers continue to be leaked. The youth of Virajpet stand in solidarity with those marching in Delhi," he said.

Saleem added that this awareness movement in Virajpet was not linked to any political party or religion. "We are here only for the students and youth of this country. Our protest is about protecting their future and ensuring a fair examination system," he said.

The Cockroach Janta Party, which began as a satirical online campaign, has emerged as a prominent youth movement following the cancellation and re-conduct of the 2026 NEET examination after an alleged question paper leak, with the group demanding stronger safeguards against paper leaks and greater accountability in the education system.
