Kodagu Forms Committee to Decide School, College Holiday Declarations During Monsoon

Madikeri: With the southwest monsoon setting in across Kodagu district, the district administration has constituted a committee of senior officials to take coordinated decisions on declaring holidays for schools, colleges and Anganwadi centres during periods of heavy rain and strong winds.

The committee has been formed by the Deputy Commissioner S.J. Somasekhar as a precautionary measure to safeguard students in the event of continuous rainfall or adverse weather conditions in the coming days.

The committee comprises the Deputy Director of the Department of Public Instruction, the Deputy Director of the Department of Women and Child Development, the Tahsildars of all five taluks in Kodagu, and all Block Education Officers (BEOs) in the district.

According to the order, the officials have been instructed to maintain close coordination and continuously monitor weather conditions in their respective jurisdictions. If any taluk or area experiences persistent rainfall or conditions that could pose a risk to students, the committee will assess the situation and bring it to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner. Based on the assessment and prevailing guidelines, holidays may be declared wherever necessary.

The district administration has also directed the Deputy Director of the Department of Public Instruction to ensure that academic activities disrupted due to weather-related holidays are compensated through appropriate arrangements on subsequent days. This is aimed at preventing any loss of instructional time and ensuring that students do not face academic setbacks while prioritising their safety during the monsoon season, according to officials.
