For her debut walk on the iconic Cannes red carpet, Rida chose a custom-designed gown by Indian designer Nikhil Gajare. The outfit featured a structured strapless corset bodice along with intricate curved panel detailing flowing across the torso, creating a striking three-dimensional effect inspired by the organic shape of seashells.
In her social media post, Rida opened up about the emotions behind the moment, revealing that she initially struggled with self-doubt and fear of public criticism before eventually embracing the opportunity with confidence. She credited her management team for encouraging her to step beyond her insecurities and own the moment.
Rida also explained that her decision to collaborate with Nikhil Gajare was intentional, noting that she had worked with the designer earlier and felt the outfit truly reflected her personality. Describing the experience as the fulfilment of a childhood dream, she said that although she never owned Barbie dolls while growing up, the gown made her “feel like a princess”.
Her appearance at Cannes has been viewed as a proud moment for Kodagu, with many social media users praising her achievement and representation of Indian fashion on a global stage.
By choosing an emerging Indian couturier for one of the world’s most-watched red carpets, Rida reinforced her image as a cultural curator who combines authenticity, creativity and self-belief.
“When I say this year is mine, I mean it. This year, and everything that comes after, is mine,” she wrote.
