Kushalnagar: In Kodagu, 2,344 applications have been taken up under the Darakhast Podi Abhiyana (land record correction drive), of which more than 1,500 have already been disposed of, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda informed on Tuesday.

The Minister was speaking after performing the bhoomi puja for the construction of the new Praja Soudha, the Taluk Administration building near the Polytechnic College in Kushalnagar. The upcoming administrative complex, estimated at ₹8.60 crore, will bring several government offices, including those of the tahsildar, sub-registrar, treasury, and land records departments, under one roof. Madikeri MLA Mantar Gowda was also present at the event.

Highlighting the government’s efforts to strengthen revenue administration in Kodagu, Krishna Byre Gowda said that new tahsildars and village-level staff have been appointed across the district’s five taluks. He added that a large-scale land survey is being conducted under Annexure-1 to identify and update records of government lands, with officials visiting individual households to verify data.

₹50 crore released for landslide prevention works:

The Minister announced that ₹50 crore has been released for landslide prevention works in Kodagu, with an additional ₹10 crore to be sanctioned shortly. He said these measures are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to mitigate the recurring landslides that have caused significant damage in the hilly district in recent years.

Emphasising the importance of digitisation, he said that revenue village accountants and inspectors are being provided with laptops to enable paperless functioning through e-offices. “We are also ensuring faster case disposal in tahsildar and Assistant Commissioner courts,” he noted.

The Minister further mentioned that nearly 42 lakh land holdings across Karnataka remain in the names of deceased persons. To address this, the government has launched the Pouthi Khata initiative, aimed at transferring such properties to their rightful legal heirs by directly engaging with families.

₹46 crore sanctioned for a new Kushalnagar taluk hospital:

Speaking on the occasion, Mantar Gowda said that the construction of the KSRTC depot in Kushalnagar is underway and that ₹46 crore has been sanctioned for a new taluk hospital. He expressed gratitude to Higher Education Minister Dr. M.C. Sudhakar for facilitating land for the Praja Soudha project.
