Coffee Board Urges Growers to Register on India Coffee App for EUDR Compliance; Here’s How to Register

The Coffee Board has developed the India Coffee App to facilitate registration and compliance.

Madikeri: The Coffee Board of India has urged coffee growers and traders exporting to the European Union (EU) to register on the India Coffee App to comply with the European Union’s Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

Speaking at a conference organised by the Coffee Board at Kudumangalore near Kushalnagar recently, Coffee Board Chairman M.J. Dinesh said the EU is an important market for Indian coffee, accounting for a significant share of the country’s exports.

He said 29 European countries have come together to implement the EUDR, which aims to prevent products linked to deforestation from entering the European market and support environmental protection efforts amid concerns over global warming.

According to Dinesh, around 45% of India’s total coffee exports reach the European market, with Italy alone accounting for about 16%. The EU is also a major importer and re-exporter of green, roasted and instant coffee.

Under the EUDR, EU importers are required to establish that coffee was produced on land that has not been subject to deforestation after December 31, 2020. India is currently classified as a low-risk country under the regulation.

The Coffee Board has developed the India Coffee App to facilitate registration and compliance. Growers can register using land ownership records, including RTC documents, along with Aadhaar authentication through a one-time password. The app also enables geo-tagging of coffee estates.

Growers exporting coffee to EU countries are required to register through the Coffee Board’s EUDR system by December 2026.

For estates larger than 10 acres, growers must upload polygon geofencing data to establish the boundaries of their holdings. Those with holdings below 10 acres need to provide GPS coordinates of their estates.

Dinesh said the government-backed platform would help growers avoid relying on private third-party services that may charge up to $35 per tonne of exported coffee for compliance-related services.

“By providing this platform natively, the Coffee Board helps growers bypass private third-party services that charge up to $35 per tonne of exported coffee. Using a government-backed app also protects national agricultural data and security,” he said.

The Board has encouraged growers and traders supplying coffee to the EU market to complete the registration process within the stipulated deadline to ensure continued access to the market.
