Somwarpet: A woman lost her life and four others, including three children, sustained injuries after the wall of a house collapsed in Hanagallu village, Somwarpet taluk, in the early hours of Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Sushma, a native of Afzalpur in Kalaburagi district. She had been living in a rented house in Hanagallu along with her husband, brother Akshay, and three children. At the time of the incident, Sushma’s husband was in Kalaburagi.
The tragic incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. when the family was fast asleep. A portion of the wall, weakened by continuous rainfall and strong winds, gave way and collapsed, crushing Sushma to death on the spot. Her brother and the three children were injured and have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Somwarpet Tahsildar Krishnamurthy visited the site and conducted an inspection. Local authorities are assessing the structural safety of other houses in the area following the incident.
The Kodagu district has been witnessing intense rainfall over the past few days, with strong gusty winds adding to the damage. Several low-lying areas have reported waterlogging, while landslide-prone regions remain on high alert. The district administration has urged residents in vulnerable areas to move to safer locations.
