Bengaluru: The 10-day monsoon session of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly began at Vidhana Soudha on Monday with tributes to recent tragedies, including the deaths of 11 youths in a stampede at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during RCB victory celebrations, victims of the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir, and over 260 people who perished in the recent Ahmedabad air crash.
On the opening day, Virajpet MLA and Chief Minister’s Legal Adviser, Ajjikuttira S. Ponnanna, was active in the House, engaging in discussions aimed at addressing long-standing issues faced by his constituency and Kodagu district.
According to a statement from Mr. Ponnanna, he met with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, and Urban Development Minister Byrathi Suresh to push for solutions to several pressing local concerns. While specific issues were not detailed, the discussions were said to focus on problems that have persistently affected residents of Kodagu.
The session, which will run until August 22, is expected to see the tabling of 17 pieces of legislation. Key among them are the Greater Bengaluru (Amendment) Bill, the Karnataka Land Reforms and Certain Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, and the Karnataka Ground Water (Regulation for Protection of Sources of Drinking Water) Bill.
