Madikeri: Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M. K. Stalin has arrived in Kodagu for a two-day private visit along with his family, according to sources.
Sources said Mr. Stalin is staying at a private resort in Madikeri and is expected to spend time with family members amid the scenic surroundings of the hill district, popularly known as Coorg. The visit is understood to be personal in nature, with no major political engagements scheduled during his stay.
The visit comes weeks after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, which resulted in a major political setback for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). In the 2026 Assembly elections, actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay led his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), to a historic victory, ending decades of dominance by the DMK and AIADMK in the State’s politics.
Mr. Stalin, who served as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister from 2021 to 2026, and his DMK were voted out of power following the election. He also suffered a defeat in the Kolathur Assembly constituency, where he was defeated by TVK candidate V.S. Babu.
Following the electoral setback, Mr. Stalin has continued to lead the DMK and has been actively reviewing the party’s performance while functioning as a key opposition leader in the State’s political landscape.
Kodagu, known for its pleasant weather, coffee plantations and resorts, is a popular destination for political leaders, celebrities and tourists seeking a short getaway.
