Madikeri: The Karnataka Forest Department has issued a warning about fraudulent websites operating in the name of the Nagarahole Tiger Reserve, duping tourists seeking to book wildlife safaris online.
Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Harsha Kumar Chikkanaragund has alerted the public to the existence of these unauthorized sites, urging visitors to verify the authenticity of booking platforms before making payments.
Tourists eager to experience the wildlife of Nagarahole have fallen victim to these fake websites, losing money to online booking scams. The official website for booking safaris at Nagarahole Tiger Reserve is https://nagaraholetigerreserve.com Here, a bus safari is priced at ₹610 per person, while a jeep safari costs ₹850 per person. Groups can book an entire jeep for ₹7,500. Despite this, a Google search for Nagarahole safari bookings often leads to deceptive sites that appear legitimate.
The fake websites have already tricked several tourists, according to officials. After making online payments through these fraudulent platforms, visitors receive no confirmation voucher, and calls to the customer care numbers listed on the sites go unanswered. This has caused significant distress and financial loss for many unsuspecting tourists.
In response to these scams, officials from the Nagarahole Tiger Reserve have lodged a complaint with the Kodagu Cyber Crime police.
