BHAGAMANDALA: Kodagu’s revered Tala Cauvery temple, the source of the river Cauvery, will remain closed to devotees from 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, as temple authorities undertake a scheduled cleaning drive within the premises.

Temple official Chandrasekhar N.G. confirmed the temporary closure and urged devotees and the public to cooperate with the temple staff during the cleaning activities. “The temple will be shut in the afternoon from 2 p.m. onwards to allow for uninterrupted cleaning work. We request all devotees to plan their visits accordingly and support the initiative,” he said.

Located in the Brahmagiri Hills near Bhagamandala in Kodagu district, Tala Cauvery is a significant pilgrimage site in Karnataka. It is traditionally considered the origin of the sacred river Cauvery, which is worshipped across southern India. The temple complex houses a shrine dedicated to Goddess Cauvery and a kundike (tank) where the river is believed to spring forth. Every year, thousands of devotees gather here during Tula Sankramana, when water is said to gush up from the spring at a predetermined moment, marking the river’s symbolic birth.

The temple is also a popular destination for tourists who seek both spiritual solace and the natural beauty of the Western Ghats. Regular maintenance and cleanliness of the site are seen as essential to preserving the sanctity and ecological significance of the location.
