Kodagu’s Kodava Heritage to be Showcased at IIC, New Delhi

New Delhi: The rich cultural traditions of Kodagu will be showcased in the national capital on September 21, with the Delhi Kodava Samaj hosting an event featuring traditional performances, discussions on Kodava heritage and presentations on the community’s language, literature and sporting traditions.

The programme, being organised in collaboration with the Karnataka Department of Kannada and Culture and the Karnataka Kodava Sahithya Academy, Madikeri, will be held at the India International Centre (IIC) from 4 p.m. onwards.

The event will bring together scholars, cultural practitioners and members of the Kodava community to highlight various facets of Kodava identity and heritage, said Delhi Kodava Samaj president Machimanda A. Cariappa.

Dr. Chotteyandamada C. Sowmya Dechamma will make a presentation on Kodava language and literature, while Pandanda K. Bopanna will speak on hockey and sports among Kodavas. Dr. Kambeyanda Deena Bojanna will present a paper on Kodava culture and heritage.

Traditional performances, including Baalopat, Ummathat, Bolakat, Kolaat, Kathiyat, Gejit Thand and Kodava Nruthya, will form a key part of the programme.

The event will also feature a presentation on Kodava cuisine and travel by Sitara Cariappa, founder of The Drunken Pig, Culinary Workshops and Travel. Rathi Vinay Jha, founder of Sandooka, Living Museum of Kodava, will speak about the initiative documenting and showcasing Kodava heritage.

Delhi Kodava Samaj president Machimanda A. Cariappa, India International Centre director K.N. Srivastava and Karnataka Kodava Sahithya Academy president Ajinikanda C. Mahesh Nachaiah will be present at the programme.
