Madikeri: With the southwest monsoon expected to set in during early June, Kodagu district in-charge Minister N. S. Boseraju has directed officials to fast-track all pending road projects and ensure their completion without further delay.

Presiding over the district-level Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) review meeting in Madikeri on Tuesday, the Minister emphasised the urgent need to take up pothole repair works across the district. He instructed officials to prioritise these works to minimise hardship to residents during the upcoming rainy season.

Expressing concern over the slow pace of ongoing works, Mr. Boseraju criticised the lack of progress despite substantial funds being sanctioned by the State government for road maintenance. He noted that delays on the part of engineers were reflecting poorly on the administration and undermining public confidence.

His remarks came in response to concerns raised by elected representatives, including Mantar Gowda, who called for both timely completion and improved quality of roadworks within his constituency. Mr. Gowda also urged authorities to expedite the construction of the Aigoor bridge, undertake repairs on the Galibeedu road, and ensure maintenance in areas such as Mutlu, Hammiyala, Devasthuru and Hanchinadu.

Adding to the concerns, Sports Authority of Karnataka Vice-Chairman Arun Machaiah pointed out that several projects, including the Karike road, remain incomplete and require immediate attention. Similarly, Kodagu District Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee president Teetira Dharmaj Uthappa highlighted the need for urgent repairs in Bittangala, Titimati, Balugodu and nearby regions.

Reviewing power supply infrastructure, Mr. Boseraju stated that ₹110 crore had been allocated for each of the two Assembly constituencies in Kodagu. He directed officials to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply in the hilly district.

Officials from Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation informed the meeting that works by Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited are underway in Hudikeri and Balale, while new substations are being initiated in Kalathmadu, Siddapur and Katakeri. However, the Minister expressed displeasure over the prolonged delays, noting that discussions on substations have dragged on for over a year without tangible progress.
