Levista Kodava Hockey Champions Trophy Begins at Murnad, Kodagu: First-Day Results

In the opening-day results, Mandepanda family secured a 2–1 win over Paradanda family.

Murnad: The Levista Kodava Hockey Champions Trophy commenced at Murnad on Friday with closely fought matches marking the opening day of the tournament.

In the first-day action, the Mandepanda family edged past Paradanda family 2–1. Chandan Kariappa and Changappa M.P. scored a goal each for Mandepanda, while Ranjan Ayyappa netted the lone goal for Paradanda.

Another match between Cheppudira and Palanganda families ended in a goalless draw, with both sides failing to break the deadlock despite sustained pressure. Nellamakkada family produced the most emphatic result of the day, recording a commanding 6–0 victory over Machamada. Poovanna and Ayyappa struck twice each, while Thimmayya and Sachin contributed one goal apiece. The encounter between Kaliyanda and Kuppanda families concluded in a 1–1 draw.

The tournament is being held as part of the silver jubilee celebrations of the Kodava Family Hockey Festival. Founded by Pandanda Kuttappa, the Levista Kodava Hockey Champions Trophy is organised by the Kodava Hockey Academy and was inaugurated on December 26.

Thirteen teams that finished first and second in tournaments held over the past 25 years are competing for the title in the five-day event, which is being conducted at the Bachettira Lalu Muddaiah Sports Ground in Murnad, Kodagu, with the support of Hockey Coorg.
