Kodagu’s 12-Year-Old Golfer Creates History with Triple National Titles

Madikeri: Twelve-year-old golfer Ballachanda Aida Thimmaiah from Kodagu has scripted history in Indian golf by winning three titles at the Maharashtra Women’s and Junior Girls’ National-Level Golf Championship conducted by the Indian Golf Union (IGU) at the Willingdon Sports Club in Mumbai from May 18 to 21.
Competing primarily in the 13–15 age group (Category B), Aida also entered the 15–18 age group (Category A) and the women’s 18+ category, emerging champion in all three divisions. She is now being recognised as the first 12-year-old golfer in India to compete across these three categories in a single event and win all of them.

Her achievement has drawn attention as she defeated older and more experienced golfers in both the junior A and women’s divisions. Speaking about the victory, Aida said competing under pressure against seasoned players was thrilling and described the triple triumph as a major milestone in her golfing journey.
With this performance, Aida has now entered the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), making her eligible to participate in WAGR-listed events and progress further in international rankings.
Aida is home-schooled to focus on her golf training and competitions. She is the daughter of rallyist Ballachanda Den Thimmaiah and Sanjana Thimmaiah, natives of Virajpet who are now based in Bengaluru. Her uncle, Len Aiyappa, is a former Indian hockey player.
