Chennai: Kodagu native and veteran Indian squash player Joshna Chinappa was felicitated at a function following her impressive performance at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Chinappa, 40, secured two bronze medals at the Games — one in the mixed doubles event, partnering with Velavan Senthilkumar, and another as part of the Indian women’s team.

Recognising her achievement, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay recently announced a cash incentive of ₹30 lakh for the squash player.

Chinappa’s performance at Aichi-Nagoya added another milestone to her distinguished international career. She became the first Indian athlete to compete in seven consecutive Asian Games, having represented the country at every edition from 2002 to 2026.

With the two bronze medals won in Japan, Chinappa has now taken her Asian Games medal tally to seven, further cementing her status as one of India’s most accomplished squash players.

The felicitation honoured Chinappa’s contribution to Indian squash and her remarkable longevity in international sport, while celebrating her latest success on the Asian Games stage.
