Kodava Samaja Gonikoppa seeks Rs 8.5 Crore grant from CM for community building completion

Under the leadership of AS Ponnanna, Legal Advisor to the Chief Minister and MLA of Virajpet Assembly Constituency, the Management submitted a request.

Bengaluru: On February 22, the Kodava Samaja Management in Gonikoppa held a meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, requesting funds for the development of the Kodava Samaja building.

The management in its request stated that the construction, estimated at Rs 8.50 crore, has halted due to financial constraints, necessitating a grant of Rs 8.50 crore for completion.

Under the leadership of AS Ponnanna, Legal Advisor to the Chief Minister and MLA of Virajpet Assembly Constituency, the Management submitted a request. Present at the submission were Gonikoppa Kodava Samaja President A.C. Poonacha, Vice President C.P. Poonacha,  and Mahesh Nachaiah Ajjinikanda, the permanent director and editor of Poomaale Kodava Weekly.

Meanwhile, in a meeting held in Bengaluru on 22 February, members of the Jenu Kuruba community appealed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to fulfill their various demands.

In a request to the Chief Minister, community members stated, "A large number of Jenu Kuruba community members living in Kodagu and Mysore districts have been oppressed since pre-independence.”

The community members urged the Chief Minister to provide quality education for the community, re-establish the Jenu Kuruba community office in Hunsur taluk, and ensure the delivery of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) grant to the community through the G.K office.

Under the leadership of Mr Ponnanna, GK Muthamma, the Vice President of Kodagu District Jenu Kuruba association, submitted the request to the Chief Minister.

CNC President hails Siddaramaiah's Codava-friendly approach:

Meanwhile, NU Nachappa, the President of the Codava National Council(CNC), expressed his view that when BJP MLC Suja Kushalappa and Pratap Simha approached the then Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai for funds for Codavas, he insulted and mercilessly rushed out, or rather necked them out. This is the ill treatment towards Codavas by the so-called Codava friendly dispensation, he said.

“Now Mr Siddaramaiah demonstrated his true Codava friendly attitude with gentle behavior. Mr Siddaramaiah acted according to the guiding principles of the Constitution. We Codavas, a minuscule community should rely on his position and should not rely on other major Communities. They are always hostile to the microscopic Codavas,” Mr Nachappa added.
