Kasaragod/ Kushalnagar: Two months after apprehending four individuals, including two women, in possession of 100 grams of MDMA, Kerala's Kasaragod police have tracked down and arrested the alleged supplier, who masked his operations using a Thailand-based mobile number. The suspect was found hiding in Kushalnagar, in Kodagu district.
The accused, identified as 37-year-old Pallul Abid from Halugunda village in Kodagu, attempted to evade capture by discarding his phone and SIM card before going off the radar. "We located and detained him at his wife’s residence in Kushalnagar," stated Inspector Sunumon K, Station House Officer of Adhur Police Station in Kerala, as reported by Onmanorama.
According to law enforcement officials, Abid was a key supplier of MDMA to multiple drug peddlers across Kasaragod and other parts of Kerala. "After receiving payments through an intermediary, he would share the drug pickup location with peddlers using a Thailand-registered number," Inspector Sunumon explained. The designated pickup spots were frequently situated in Bengaluru.
On January 13, the police intercepted an SUV in Iriyanni, which was travelling from Bengaluru, and arrested Mohammed Sahad (26) from Mastikundu in Muliyar panchayat, Shanavas P M (42) and his wife Shareefa (40) from Vidyanagar in Kasaragod town, along with Shanavas’s sister Shuhaiba P M (38) from Chattanchal in Chemnad panchayat.
Authorities seized 100 grams of MDMA, a potent synthetic drug known for its stimulant and hallucinogenic effects. Since possession of over 10 grams is categorised as a commercial quantity under the law, all four suspects remain in judicial custody, facing potential prison sentences of up to 20 years.
Investigators subsequently focused on Sahad, who owns juice shops in Kochi and Bengaluru and had a prior arrest for MDMA possession. Two days before his apprehension, he transferred ₹90,000 to Abdul Khader’s bank account in Uppala. Shortly after the transaction, Sahad received a location pin from a Thailand number, indicating the drug pickup point in Bengaluru.
The police later arrested 27-year-old Abdul Khader, making him the fifth suspect in the case.
