Bengaluru: Karnataka's Minister for Transport and Muzrai, Ramalinga Reddy, has sanctioned ₹10 lakh for the renovation of the historic Thirike Motte Eshwara Temple, located in Kadangamurur village of Virajpet taluk, Kodagu district.
The grant was approved and transferred to the temple management recently following an appeal by senior journalist Ballachanda Darshan Devaiah, who requested the Minister to allocate funds from the Muzrai Department for the temple’s reconstruction. One of the oldest temples in Kodagu, the Thirike Motte Eshwara Temple had fallen into disrepair, prompting local villagers to initiate its renovation.
Ballachanda Darshan Devaiah, a native of Kadangamurur, is currently based in Bengaluru and serves as a senior journalist with The Hindu. He has previously worked with The Indian Express and Deccan Herald, and is the son of Ballachanda K. Ponnanna and Vishala Ponnanna.
Kangira S. Machayya, President of the temple committee, Kangira P. Mandanna, Secretary, and the villagers of Kadangamurur expressed heartfelt gratitude to Minister Ramalinga Reddy and Ballachnada Darshan Devaiah for securing the grant. They said the financial support would be instrumental in the temple’s reconstruction and other related development works.
The sanctioned funds will contribute to preserving the temple’s cultural and religious legacy for future generations. However, the temple still requires additional funding to complete all planned renovations. The temple committee has appealed to devotees and well-wishers to contribute towards the cause.
