Madikeri: The paddy procurement process in Kodagu will begin on December 1 at five locations, including Madikeri, Kushalnagar, Gonikoppal, Somwarpet APMC markets, and Virajpet town, as confirmed by the district administration.
A recent meeting of the task force committee, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Venkataraja, decided to establish paddy procurement centers in these key areas. For the 2024-25 procurement season, the minimum support price (MSP) for regular rice has been set at ₹2,300 per quintal, while ragi will be procured at ₹4,290 per quintal, the Deputy Commissioner announced.
The procurement of paddy and ragi will be carried out under the state government's mandate for the 2024-25 season. Venkataraja emphasized that the Karnataka State Agricultural Marketing Federation has been appointed as the official procurement agency for Kodagu district. “Farmers can sell their rice at the designated centers, and additional centers will be opened if necessary to streamline the process,” he added.
Kumuda Sharath, Joint Director of Food and Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, reminded farmers not to sell rice before the official procurement process begins. If any farmer fails to register by the stipulated time, they will still be able to sell their rice at the procurement centers after completing the registration process.
Farmers are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to sell their produce at the designated centers starting December 1.
