Madikeri: A bomb threat email sent to the Kodagu District Court in Madikeri on Tuesday triggered panic and led to the evacuation of the court premises before authorities confirmed that the threat was a hoax.
According to police, an email was received at around 8.30 a.m. on the official email account of the Principal District and Sessions Judge. The message claimed that cyanide bombs would be detonated inside the court premises at 2 p.m.
Following the threat, security agencies immediately initiated precautionary measures. All judges, court staff, advocates and members of the public were evacuated from the building. Bomb detection and disposal squads, along with sniffer dogs, were deployed to conduct a thorough search of the court complex.
Police said the entire premises was carefully inspected for any suspicious objects or explosive materials. However, no explosives or other dangerous substances were found during the operation.
Authorities later confirmed that the bomb threat was a hoax. Court proceedings, which had been temporarily disrupted due to the security measures, resumed as usual after officials declared the premises safe.
Police have launched an investigation to trace the source of the email and identify those responsible for sending the threat.
This is not the first such incident at the court. A similar hoax bomb threat message was reportedly received on February 16, prompting security concerns and a police response at the time as well.
