Tourists Fined ₹10,000 for Traffic Violations, Misbehaviour with Police in Madikeri, Kodagu

Madikeri: The Kodagu District Police have imposed a ₹10,000 fine on tourists who allegedly violated traffic rules and behaved inappropriately with police personnel while riding a rented bike in Madikeri.

According to the Madikeri Traffic Police Station, the tourists had arrived in Madikeri for a trip and had rented a two-wheeler. They were found riding the vehicle on a one-way road in violation of traffic regulations.

The police also observed that the tourists allegedly behaved inappropriately with police personnel who were on duty. Following the violations, legal action was initiated against the individuals concerned and a fine of ₹10,000 was imposed, a release by Kodagu police stated.

The Kodagu District Police urged tourists and other road users to strictly follow traffic regulations while travelling in the district. “Following traffic rules and behaving respectfully with police personnel is the duty of every individual,” the police said in an advisory.

The police also appealed to visitors to exercise caution while riding rented vehicles and to comply with road signs, traffic restrictions and instructions issued by personnel deployed for traffic management.

Madikeri, a popular tourist destination, witnesses a significant influx of visitors, particularly during weekends and holidays. With increasing tourist traffic, the police have been stepping up enforcement to ensure road safety and regulate vehicle movement in the town.

The Kodagu District Police reiterated that violations of traffic rules or inappropriate conduct towards police personnel could invite legal action and penalties.
