Madikeri: Madikeri is set to host the second edition of Coffee Dasara on September 24, a celebration dedicated to Kodagu’s most iconic crop. The festival will highlight the district’s deep-rooted connection with coffee, blending flavours, brews, and cultural expressions on a common stage.

The event will take place at the Kala Sambhrama Stage in Gandhi Maidan and aims to bring together planters, entrepreneurs, and coffee enthusiasts. It was first introduced last year by Madikeri MLA Mantar Gowda, who conceptualised the idea, and it drew positive feedback from participants and visitors alike. The Coorg Planters’ Association is partnering in this year’s edition, said H.T. Anil, the festival convenor.

The day will begin with Kodagu district in-charge Minister N.S. Boseraju inaugurating the coffee stalls at the D. Sakamma Memorial Hall at 10 a.m. This will be followed by Coffee Board Chairman Dinesh Devaiah launching the cultural programmes on stage, with Mr. Gowda presiding.

One of the highlights of the festival will be a technical session for growers, running from 10.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Experts from the Coffee Board and other professional organisations will address key issues such as maintaining quality, introducing new varieties, and ensuring soil health.

In recognition of contributions to the sector, ten achievers will be honoured, including the Siri Women’s Self-Help Group from Takeri. Culinary contests featuring coffee-inspired cakes, brownies, puddings, biscuits, beverages, and chocolates will add flavour to the occasion.

Around 35 stalls will also display information and products connected to coffee and related industries. Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Industries, and several cooperative societies including Nandini Milk and Kodagu Coffee Growers’ Cooperative will take part.

According to Mr. Anil, the festival seeks to reaffirm Kodagu’s pride as India’s coffee capital.
