Ponnampet: In a shocking incident, four members of a family were brutally murdered in Begur near Ponnampet on Friday. The accused, identified as Girish, allegedly hacked his wife, her child from a previous marriage, and her grandparents to death with a machete.

Girish, who hails from Kutta, was residing in a rental house in Begur. After committing the crime, he fled the scene, and the police have launched a manhunt to track him down.

The deceased have been identified as Nagi (32), her seven-year-old daughter Cauvery, Nagi’s father Kariya (75), and her mother Gauri (70).

Nagi’s husband, Girish (35), is absconding, a police official said. Both Nagi and Girish were employed as labourers in a coffee estate. The incident came to light when fellow workers went looking for them after they failed to report for work on Friday. The couple was residing at the house of Nagi’s father, Kariya, according to sources.

Kodagu Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan, along with other senior officials, visited the spot. An investigation is under way. The exact reason behind the murders is yet to be determined. Ponnampet police have reached the crime spot and are collecting evidence. Speaking to The Kodagu Express, officials said that further details will be revealed after a thorough inquiry.
