Madikeri: A resident of Kodagu has donated a trained working dog to strengthen the district police’s efforts in crime detection and investigation. A.U. Poovayya, a resident of Paloor near Napoklu, recently handed over a Belgian Malinois dog to the Kodagu district police dog squad.
District Superintendent of Police RN Bindu Mani appreciated the contribution and said such initiatives from citizens help strengthen the police force’s capabilities in tackling crime and maintaining public safety.
Police said trained dogs play an important role in detecting crimes, tracing suspects, and identifying explosives and narcotic substances during investigations and security operations. The addition of the Belgian Malinois will further enhance the effectiveness of the district dog squad.

The Belgian Malinois is a highly intelligent and agile working dog breed originally from Belgium. Known for its strong sense of smell, speed, and obedience, the breed is widely used by police and military units around the world for tasks such as narcotics detection, explosive detection, search and rescue, and tracking suspects.
Due to their sharp instincts, high energy levels, and ability to undergo specialised training, Belgian Malinois dogs are often preferred by law enforcement agencies for operational duties.
