Virajpet: The Kodagu district police have filed 16 First Information Reports (FIRs) against individuals involved in flouting sound pollution regulations during Ganesh idol immersion processions in Virajpet.

According to officials, cases have been registered not only against the organisers but also against owners of DJ sound systems, operators, technicians, and even vehicle drivers who facilitated the use of loud music during the festivities.

Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan, in a press release, stated that the accused will be booked under Section 15 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986. However, the final legal course of action will be taken after the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) submits its report on the violations.

The police stressed that strict enforcement measures were put in place to curb noise pollution during the Ganesha festival. Authorities reiterated that DJ music was prohibited for processions, and anyone exceeding the permissible sound levels would be held accountable.

The district police had already issued prior instructions banning the use of high-decibel DJ systems for religious celebrations. Despite this, several cases of non-compliance were reported, prompting the registration of multiple FIRs.
