Madikeri/Napoklu: Four persons have been arrested in connection with the alleged assault on a Hindu activist in Napoklu on February 27, Kodagu Superintendent of Police R.N. Bindu Mani said on Saturday (February 28).

According to Bindu Mani, a case has been registered at the Napoklu police station and all four accused have been taken into custody. The incident occurred on Friday when Appachira Gautham was allegedly attacked by a group of youths in Napoklu, Kodagu district, reportedly during preparations for a Hindu Sangama rally.

The injured activist was initially treated at a local hospital and was later shifted to the Kodagu District Hospital in Madikeri for further medical care.

Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Member of Parliament representing Kodagu-Mysuru, termed the attack “deeply concerning”. “The attack on Hindu activists who were peacefully campaigning is deeply concerning. I have directed the authorities to take appropriate and necessary action in this regard,” he said.

He added that he had spoken with the Superintendent of Police, Kodagu, to ensure comprehensive security arrangements for the Hindu Sangam meeting scheduled in Ballamavati on Saturday.

Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna also strongly condemned the incident. “Whoever the culprits may be, strict action will be taken against them,” he said, while commending the police for promptly registering an FIR and arresting the accused soon after the incident.
