Two Bengaluru Students Killed, Two Injured in Tanker-Car Collision on Mysuru-Virajpet Highway

The accident occurred near Devarapura, close to the archway of Sri Raja Rajeshwari Ashram at Thithimathi.

Virajpet: A weekend road trip to Wayanad ended in tragedy after two 18-year-old PUC students from Bengaluru were killed and two others seriously injured when a petrol tanker rammed into the car they were travelling in on the Mysuru-Virajpet Highway in Kodagu district in the early hours of Sunday.

The accident occurred near Devarapura, close to the archway of Sri Raja Rajeshwari Ashram at Thithimathi, when a petrol tanker collided with a Swift car carrying five friends from Lakshmipura in Bengaluru. The group was travelling to Wayanad in Kerala for a weekend trip.

Dhanush (18), who was seated in the front passenger seat, died on the spot after the impact crushed the front portion of the car. His body has been shifted to the Gonikoppa mortuary for post-mortem.

Chethan (18), who was travelling in the rear seat, succumbed to his injuries while being shifted in an ambulance to Mysuru. His body has been kept at JSS Hospital, Mysuru, for post-mortem.

Another teenager, Chinmay (18), is undergoing treatment at JSS Hospital in Mysuru. A fourth injured youth has been shifted to a hospital in Bengaluru for specialised treatment. Police said the identity of the fifth occupant is yet to be confirmed.

According to the police, the friends had left Bengaluru at around 11.30 pm on Saturday for Wayanad. After crossing Mysuru, their car was involved in the collision near Thithimathi. The impact extensively damaged the vehicle, leaving the occupants trapped inside until they were rescued.

Police have informed the families of the deceased. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
