Madikeri: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Kodagu district in the coming days, as pre-monsoon activity intensifies across south interior Karnataka.


The IMD's Bengaluru centre issued a press release on May 10 warning of light to moderate rains accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds across several parts of the district through the week.


The advisory notes that wind speeds could reach 40–50 kmph on some days, and residents, especially those in vulnerable areas, are urged to take precautions.


Here's a day-by-day breakdown of the weather forecast for Kodagu:


Saturday, May 10: Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected in a few places, with gusty winds touching 40–50 kmph. The IMD warns of potential localised disruptions, especially in the evening.


Sunday, May 11: Similar conditions are expected to prevail, with scattered rainfall and continued gusty winds at 40–50 kmph.


Monday, May 12: Rainfall is likely to persist with slightly reduced wind speeds (30–40 kmph). Overcast skies are expected through much of the day.


Tuesday, May 13: More widespread rain is expected, with most parts of Kodagu likely to receive showers. Thunderstorms accompanied by winds (30–40 kmph) may occur in the afternoon or evening.


Wednesday, May 14: Thunderstorms with moderate rainfall will continue. Winds at 30–40 kmph may cause tree falls or minor damage in forested and plantation areas.


Thursday, May 15: Rain activity will increase, with most parts of the district receiving showers. Occasional thunder and lightning are also expected.


Friday, May 16: Moderate rain and isolated thunderstorms will mark the end of the week, setting the stage for the southwest monsoon’s advance in the region.
