Kodagu: Raja Seat Closed to Public Till July 12 Amid Traffic Diversions in Madikeri

Madikeri: The popular tourist destination Raja Seat in Madikeri has been closed to the public from July 9 to 12 as a precautionary measure following traffic diversions introduced after a landslide near the KSRTC bus stand.

According to the Deputy Commissioner's office, widespread rainfall and strong winds over the past few days triggered a landslide near the KSRTC bus stand, forcing authorities to divert all vehicles exiting the private and KSRTC bus stands through Raja's Seat Road.

The diversion has led to a sharp increase in traffic along the stretch. Officials said the situation has been worsened by tourists and members of the public parking their vehicles near Raja's Seat, resulting in frequent traffic congestion and disrupting the smooth movement of vehicles.

With a higher influx of tourists expected during the weekend, the district administration anticipates further pressure on the road network and additional parking along Raja's Seat Road.

The Deputy Commissioner also noted that a school is located on the road, and the increased movement and parking of vehicles could create safety concerns and inconvenience for schoolchildren.

To ensure public safety and facilitate smooth traffic flow, the district administration has prohibited parking of vehicles near Raja's Seat and banned the entry of the public and tourists into the tourist spot from July 9 to 12.

The order has been issued by the Deputy Commissioner by invoking powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and the Karnataka Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Rules, 1990.

Authorities have appealed to residents and visitors to cooperate with the restrictions and use alternative routes during the temporary closure.
