Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday urged people to rise above caste and religious identities in public life and uphold a unified national identity. “Be it caste or religion, let it be practised within one’s home. The moment we step outside, we must all identify as Indians,” he said.
He was speaking at a felicitation programme organised by the Kodava Samaja Bengaluru at the Kodava Samudaya Bhavana in Vasanthnagar. The community honoured Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar for allocating land for the Samaja in the city.
Lauding the Kodava community’s contributions to the nation, Siddaramaiah said, “Though the Kodavas are small in number, none can match their contribution to the country. Be it in culture, discipline, or national service, they are at the forefront.” He highlighted their achievements in the armed forces, national security, politics, and sports.

He underlined that the Congress party’s ideology is rooted in equality and secularism. “The Congress party treats people of all castes and religions as Indian citizens,” he said.
Deputy CM Shivakumar, along with Ministers K.J. George, Byrathi Suresh, Krishna Byre Gowda, MLAs A.S. Ponnanna and Dr Manthar Gowda , were present at the event.
