Virajpet/Madikeri: Kodagu district witnessed two tragic incidents of suicide in separate cases. In the first incident, a 24-year-old homemaker allegedly died by suicide at Kottoli village near Virajpet. The deceased has been identified as Kaveramma, daughter of D. Katti Bidappa and Sheela, residents of Karada, according to the police.
Kaveramma had been married to M.A. Dinesh of Kottoli for four years. Her father had recently passed away, and on Wednesday, her family had gone to Bhagamandala to perform rituals in his memory. She stayed back at her husband’s house with their 14-day-old infant.
According to the police, Kaveramma ended her life in the bathroom. Dinesh, who was working on a nearby coffee plantation, heard the infant crying and rushed home. On forcing open the bathroom door, he discovered his wife dead.
The reason behind her suicide remains unclear. Virajpet Rural police have registered a case and are investigating.
In another incident, a 17-year-old college student allegedly died by suicide by jumping into a river in Madikeri taluk. Police sources indicate that after finishing classes, the student directly went to the river and jumped in. Further details on the case are awaited.
