Two College Students Drown While Swimming in Kodagu

Suntikoppa: Two teenage boys drowned in the Haradooru stream near Suntikoppa on Saturday, according to local police.


The incident occurred in Garagandur village of Kushalnagar taluk when the boys went to the Haradooru stream for a swim after attending college. According to the Kodagu News report, the deceased have been identified as Maham Raheej (16) and Mohammed Nihal (16), residents of the Pump House area in Suntikoppa. Both were first-year PUC students at Chennamma College.


According to the police, the boys entered the stream to swim but were reportedly swept away by the current and drowned. Local residents alerted the authorities after noticing the boys had not returned.



Personnel from the Suntikoppa police station rushed to the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection. Expert divers were pressed into service and later retrieved both bodies from the water after an intensive search operation.


The bodies were subsequently shifted to the Kushalnagar Hospital for post-mortem examination.


Police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
