Ponnampet: A tigress was found dead in a coffee estate in Nemmale village, Ponnampet taluk of Kodagu district, on Wednesday.
According to forest authorities, the carcass is estimated to be that of a five to six-year-old tigress. The discovery was made by Coffee estate workers, who immediately alerted the Forest Department. A team of officials and wildlife veterinarians rushed to the spot and conducted a post-mortem examination.
Prima facie, officials said the tigress appeared to have died of natural causes, with no external injuries or signs of foul play observed on the body. However, to ascertain the exact cause of death, the viscera samples were collected and sent to a forensic laboratory for further analysis.
“The post-mortem has been completed and the carcass was later disposed of as per protocol. We are awaiting the laboratory report to confirm the cause of death,” said a forest official.
