Madikeri: The Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy, in collaboration with Junior Chamber International India (JCI), will host the 'Thok Namme' (Gun Carnival) competition at the Mayamudi Government school playground in Madikeri on December 8.
The event, which is set to attract a large number of participants, will feature a traditional gun shooting to coconut contest, a popular local sport in Kodagu also known as Coorg.
Ajjinikanda Mahesh Nachaiah, President of the Karnataka Kodava Sahithya Academy, made the announcement during a press conference at the Madikeri Press Club on Wednesday.
He revealed that the competition will include three categories: the "22 Raifal," "12th Bore," and "Air Gun," each offering cash prizes for the top three winners. The prizes for the "22 Raifal" category are ₹30,000 for first place, ₹20,000 for second, and ₹10,000 for third. In the "12th Bore" category, the first prize is ₹25,000, followed by ₹15,000 for second place, and ₹10,000 for third. The "Air Gun" category offers ₹10,000 for the winner, ₹8,000 for second, and ₹6,000 for third.
"This is a state-level competition, and everyone is welcome to participate," Nachaiah said, adding that approximately 400 people are expected to take part. He also mentioned that a special lecture on the significance of the gun will be held during the event. Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna will inaugurate the competition at 9 AM.
