Suntikoppa: Tension prevailed in Herur village near Suntikoppa, Kodagu after allegations surfaced that a building constructed in a tribal colony was being used to promote Christianity among local residents. The situation led to a dispute during an alleged inauguration programme, prompting police intervention.
According to villagers, a group of people from Tamil Nadu allegedly had arrived to inaugurate the building, where religious teachings related to Christianity were reportedly planned. Residents objected to the event, claiming they were unaware of the purpose of the structure and had believed it was being built as a house, according to a report in TOI.
Former Nakur Shirangala Gram Panchayat president Mandodi Jagannath, along with villagers, lodged a complaint at the Suntikoppa police station. Following the complaint, Kushalnagar Circle Inspector and Suntikoppa PSI Mohanraj rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Nakur Shirangala Gram Panchayat administrative officer Srikanth and Panchayat Development Officer Asma later inspected the site.
Jagannath alleged that the building was being used for religious conversion activities and urged officials of the Social Welfare Department to initiate action. He stated that villagers felt misled as the structure was initially believed to be a residential house.
