Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Announces Cash Prize for Asian Games Bronze Medallists Joshna Chinappa
Japan/Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Saturday announced a cash incentive of ₹30 lakh each for squash players Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar, who secured a bronze medal in the mixed doubles event at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The Indian pair lost a closely fought semifinal against Hong Kong China’s Lee Ka Yi and Tang Ming Hong, going down 1-2 (10-11, 11-2, 10-11). Their semifinal defeat meant they finished with the bronze medal.
Congratulating the duo, Vijay said their achievement had brought pride to India and Tamil Nadu. He said the state government would provide a ₹30 lakh incentive to each player in recognition of their performance.
Vijay also said the athletes’ achievement would inspire the younger generation of sportspersons in Tamil Nadu and reiterated the state government’s support for talented athletes.
The latest announcement comes after Vijay had earlier announced cash rewards for other Tamil Nadu athletes and sportspersons, including pole vaulter Baranica Elangovan, badminton player A. Hariharan, cricketer G. Kamalini and relay runners Vishal T.K. and Vithya Ramraj.
