Madikeri: A resort employee from Assam was fatally stabbed at First Monnangeri near Madikeri, Kodagu on November 7. The Madikeri Rural Police have arrested the suspect, identified as Dayanand Prasad, who is also wanted in connection with another murder case.
According to police, the victim, Dilip Sharma, and the accused, along with another co-worker Santosh Kumar, were employed as waiters at a local resort and shared accommodation in First Monnangeri. The incident reportedly began when Dayanand confronted Santosh over a financial dispute around 8.30 p.m.
Dilip, attempting to defuse the situation, warned both men that he would record their altercation and inform their resort manager. The quarrel briefly ceased, but shortly afterward, Dilip was found with stab wounds to his chest and abdomen. He was rushed to the Madikeri district hospital, where he informed police that Dayanand had attacked him.
Due to the severity of his injuries, Dilip was later shifted to a hospital in Mysuru, where he succumbed to his wounds the following day, November 8.
Following a swift investigation, the police traced Dayanand to Bengaluru, where he was arrested and brought back to Kodagu. He was produced before a local court, which has remanded him to judicial custody.
A case has been registered at the Madikeri Rural Police Station under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said further investigation is underway.
