Rain, Winds Prompt Holiday for Schools, PU Colleges in Kodagu on July 7

Madikeri: The Kodagu district administration has declared a holiday for educational institutions on Sunday, July 7, following widespread rainfall accompanied by strong winds across the region.

Deputy Commissioner of Kodagu, in an official order, announced that Anganwadis, primary schools, high schools, and pre-university (PU) colleges will remain closed as a precautionary measure. The decision comes amid concerns over the safety of students and staff due to the ongoing inclement weather. Heavy rain and gusty winds have been reported in various parts of the district, raising the risk of waterlogging, landslides, and falling trees.

However, the SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) examination paper 3, which is scheduled for July 7, will be conducted as per schedule. The Deputy Commissioner has urged students appearing for the exam to take necessary precautions and follow instructions from their respective institutions.

Kodagu, a hilly district in Karnataka, frequently witnesses heavy monsoon showers, and the administration remains on alert to ensure public safety. Officials have also advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated on weather-related advisories.

Further updates on weather and school schedules are expected to be issued based on rainfall intensity over the next 24 hours.
