Puttaraju’s success, along with the efforts of the Clean Coorg Initiative (CCI), the local administration, and waste management organisation Hasirudala, was praised for closing a 40-year-old landfill in Ponnampet. The landfill's closure was hailed as a groundbreaking achievement, promoting environmental sustainability.
Aparna Kumar, a member of CCI, expressed pride in the collective efforts: "His contribution and success, a collective effort of the citizens’ group, the administration, and Hasirudala, were applauded at this international forum."
The model of landfill closure developed in Ponnampet was a key focus during the discussions at the Organics Congress, which explored ways to mitigate climate change through sustainable practices. "Ponnampet today stands high as a model town, perhaps the first of its kind in the country to mitigate sustainable climate change," added Aparna Kumar.
