Pedestrian Killed as car hits him, Crashes into Transformer near Nemmale in Kodagu

The pedestrian, identified as Gappu, a labourer and a resident of West Nemmale, died on the spot due to the impact, the police said.

T. Shettigeri: A pedestrian was killed in a road accident after being hit by a car on the T. Shettigeri–Birunani main road near Nemmale on Saturday.

According to the police, a car travelling along the stretch knocked down a man who was walking on the roadside. After hitting the pedestrian, the car lost control and rammed into an electric transformer located nearby.

The pedestrian, identified as Gappu, a labourer and a resident of West Nemmale, died on the spot due to the impact, the police said. Local residents rushed to the scene and alerted the authorities.

The driver of the car sustained serious injuries in the crash and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is reported to be serious.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident, including the speed of the vehicle and possible negligence. Traffic movement on the road was briefly disrupted following the incident.
