Kushalnagar: Following the forecast of heavy rains in Kodagu district, a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has arrived to implement precautionary measures. The NDRF 10th battalion from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, reached Kushalnagar recently and was welcomed by District Disaster Management Officer Ananyakumar.
Led by NDRF Commandant Shiya Jayakumar, the 25-member team is stationed at the District Industrial Training Centre Hostel near Kudige in Kushalnagar. NDRF sources indicated that additional personnel could be summoned if necessary, noting that 23 NDRF personnel were deployed last year.
The team, trained in handling floods, landslides, and other natural calamities, is equipped with rescue gear including life jackets, motor boats, rafts, wood chopping equipment, ropes, search lights, cutters, oxygen cylinders, stretchers, and life-saving medicines.
In the event of natural disasters, the NDRF team will be supported by personnel from the Police Department, Fire and Emergency Services, Home Guards, Revenue Department, Panchayat Development Officers from local Gram Panchayats, rafters from Dubare, and vehicles identified by the District Administration. The NDRF team will remain in Kodagu until the monsoon season concludes.
