MADIKERI: The Forest Department has temporarily suspended safari operations at the Nagarahole Tiger Reserve’s Nanachi and Veeranahosahalli gates due to persistent rainfall in the region.
Officials stated that the continuous downpour in Kodagu district has severely affected the condition of the roads within the safari zone, making it unsafe for tourist vehicles to operate. The decision to halt the safaris was taken in the interest of public safety and to prevent further damage to the forest paths.
“The trails have become slippery and difficult to navigate because of incessant rain. Until road conditions improve, we are forced to stop safari operations from the Nanachi and Veeranahosahalli entry points,” a Forest Department official told The Kodagu Express.
The suspension is expected to impact tourist inflow to these two prominent gates, particularly during a time when wildlife enthusiasts flock to Nagarahole to catch glimpses of its famed tigers, elephants, and other wildlife.
However, authorities have clarified that safari operations from the Dammanakatte gate near Kabini will continue as usual.
Visitors planning a trip to Nagarahole are advised to check with the Forest Department for the latest updates. The safari will resume from the affected gates once conditions improve and safety can be ensured, officials added.
