MLA AS Ponnanna Debunks Fake News on KSRTC Free Bus Services to Talacauvery

Ponnanna clarified that the funding came from the Karnataka Neeravari Nigam through the Deputy Commissioner's account.

Virajpet: Virajpet MLA Ajjikuttira S Ponnanna has officially debunked recent false claims circulating on various news media platforms and WhatsApp groups regarding the funding of free KSRTC(Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) bus services provided during the Cauvery Sankramana festival, also known as Cauvery Theerthodbhava.

Contrary to the misinformation suggesting that temple offerings, or "devotees' money," were used for these services, Ponnanna clarified that the funding came from the Karnataka Neeravari Nigam through the Deputy Commissioner's account.

The controversy began when some websites and WhatsApp groups falsely reported that the free bus services offered by KSRTC were funded by temple donations. In a video message released on Monday, Ponnanna addressed these claims, stating unequivocally that no temple funds were used. Instead, the money allocated for the bus services was provided by the Karnataka Neeravari Nigam, managed through the district's Deputy Commissioner’s account.

The free bus services were put in place to facilitate devotees' access to the Cauvery Theerthodbhava event at Talacauvery from Bhagamandala. This initiative was particularly beneficial for senior citizens, who often face challenges with transportation.

Ponnanna further explained that KSRTC operates as an autonomous corporation under the state government, which means it provides public services but requires funding from relevant government departments for free services. He compared this to the Shakti scheme, which offers free bus services to women passengers. In that scheme, the state government covers the costs incurred by KSRTC.

This clarification underscores the importance of verifying information before accepting and spreading it, especially in the digital age where misinformation can easily gain traction. Ponnanna's timely intervention has cleared up the confusion.
