Bengaluru: Tourists visiting Madikeri, Kodagu and other major destinations in Karnataka will soon have access to mobile food services operated by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), with the corporation planning to launch its first food van initiative, ‘Mayura Ruchi on Wheels’.

The initiative was announced by Karnataka Energy and Tourism Minister K.J. George on Saturday 2 October 2026 in Bengaluru. Under the first phase, KSTDC plans to deploy food vans at Hampi, Madikeri, Jog Falls, Mysuru, Nandi Hills and key tourist locations in Bengaluru.

The mobile food service is aimed at providing tourists with clean, quality and affordable food at high-footfall tourist destinations. It will extend the food and hospitality services of KSTDC’s Mayura Hotels beyond hotel premises and bring them closer to visitors.

KSTDC currently operates 24 Mayura Hotels across Karnataka. According to the corporation, some of these hotels are located away from the main tourist zones, creating a gap between the hotels and visitors. The mobile food vans are intended to address this by taking Mayura’s food services directly to popular tourist locations.

The food vans will serve breakfast items, snacks, meals and selected regional specialities from different parts of Karnataka. The initiative is also expected to promote the State’s diverse culinary traditions while creating employment and business opportunities for local communities.

“A good tourism experience must also include access to good food. Through ‘Mayura Ruchi on Wheels’, we want to take the taste and quality of Mayura Hotels directly to visitors at major tourist destinations,” George said.

He added that the initiative would promote local cuisine, create employment opportunities and contribute to KSTDC’s revenue.

KSTDC Chairman M. Srinivas said the initiative was the corporation’s first mobile food service project and that preference would be given to local dishes.

Tourism Secretary Dr Ram Prasath Manohar said the initiative would extend KSTDC’s hospitality services beyond hotel premises while combining local food culture, quality service and tourist convenience.
