Gonikoppa: Devarapura near Gonikoppa witnessed a major accident on Friday night when a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus travelling from Mysuru to Virajpet crashed into a tree while attempting to avoid a pothole on the main road. The incident occurred around 8:30 PM, leaving several passengers injured.
The bus overturned completely in the impact, and the driver sustained injuries to his leg. He was rushed to the Gonikoppa Government Hospital, where he is receiving first aid.
The accident left some passengers with fractures after they were flung out of the bus through the front glass. Emergency response teams and ambulances quickly arrived at the scene, transporting the injured to various hospitals for treatment.
Eyewitnesses reported that the accident was caused when the driver lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid a pothole. The road condition near Devarapura has been a concern for commuters, with frequent complaints about its deteriorating state.
The overturned bus and rescue operations caused significant disruption to traffic in the area. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the accident and are assessing the need for immediate road repairs to prevent similar incidents.
This accident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by commuters on poorly maintained roads in the district, underscoring the urgent need for road infrastructure improvements.
