Kodava Film ‘Nada Peda Asha’ Wins Karnataka State Award for Best Regional Film

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has declared the winners of the State Film Awards for 2021, with the prestigious recognition for Best Regional Film going to the Kodava language movie Nada Peda Asha.


The film, which carries a strong social message, struck a chord with audiences during the challenging period of the Covid-19 pandemic. Nada Peda Asha portrays the life of a martyr’s wife, a theme that resonated deeply with viewers and drew wide appreciation.


Highlighting the culture and traditions of Kodagu, the movie has been praised for its authentic depiction of Kodava lifestyle and heritage. The lead roles are essayed by Nellachandra Rishi Poovamma and Bollajira B. Ayyappa, whose performances have added strength to the narrative.


The film has been adapted from a work by writer Nagesh Kaluru and directed by Kottukattira Prakash Cariappa. Significantly, Nada Peda Asha marks the 21st production in the Kodava film industry, which remains a small yet meaningful segment in Karnataka’s cinema landscape.


Some of the other notable Kodava films over the years include Kodagra Sipayi, Mahavira Acchunayaka, Nadamanne Nada Kool, Mandara Poo, Na Bayanda Poo, Jadimale, Ponnra Manassu, Nirikshe, and Makkada Manas.
