Kodagu Finishes Runner-Up in State-Level Deaf T20 Cricket Tournament

Mandya: The Kodagu district team secured second place at the 11th State-level Deaf T20 Cricket Tournament, which concluded recently in Mandya. The three-day tournament was organised by the Mandya District Deaf Association and hosted at the PET Sports Ground of the Sir M. Visvesvaraya Stadium in Mandya.
The event witnessed spirited participation from deaf cricket teams representing several districts across Karnataka. Ballari emerged champions after a consistent performance throughout the tournament, while Kodagu finished runners-up. Dakshina Kannada claimed third place and Mysuru ended the tournament in fourth position, according to a release.
“Kodagu’s campaign was marked by disciplined teamwork and strong performances across matches, helping the team progress to the final and secure the second spot,” Kodagu District Deaf Association, stated in a release. The result was hailed as a significant achievement by the Kodagu District Deaf Association, highlighting the growing standards of sports among the deaf community in the district.
Office-bearers of the Kodagu District Deaf Association, including president Gowroo Somanna Mathanda, vice-president K.K. Shankar Narayan, secretary Ranjith and treasurer Suresh, were present during the tournament and took part in the closing ceremony. They congratulated the players for their effort and sportsmanship and thanked the organisers for successfully conducting the event.
The tournament served as an important platform to promote inclusive sports, encourage talent among deaf athletes, and foster interaction between teams from different districts.
