Kodagu Family Cup Golf Tournament Draws 170 Golfers in Bittangala, Virajpet

Virajpet: The 14th edition of the Kodagu Family Cup–2026 golf tournament concluded on a high note at Coorg Golf Links, Bittangala, near Virajpet, with spirited competition, strong participation and a celebration of family-led sporting tradition. The two-day event was hosted under the hospitality of the Malachira family and brought together golfers from across the region.


In the premier Team Gross Stroke Play (0–18) category, the pairing of Ganesh Mahendra and K.P. Ranjith emerged champions with a combined score of 157 points. They were pushed hard in the final round by the Kanjithanda team of K.K. Changappa and K.U. Vikranth, who finished runners-up after a closely fought contest.


The tournament drew more than 170 golfers, forming 70 teams, underscoring the growing popularity of the annual family cup at the Bittangala course. In the Team Handicap Stroke Play (0–18) category, the Kodanda duo of C.B. Muthanna and C.A. Bopayya claimed first place, while the Chenanda team comprising C.P. Karyappa and Colonel (Retd.) C.M. Appayya secured second position.

Individual honours were keenly contested across categories. Varun Ganapathi won the Individual Gross Stroke Play title, with Mali Shashikiran finishing runner-up. In the Individual Handicap Stroke Play (0–18) section, B.C. Nanjappa topped the field, followed by M.G. Bopanna. The Individual Handicap Stableford (19–24) crown went to Retired Major B.A. Nanjappa, with C.K. Poonacha taking second place.


Among senior golfers, Dr. T.N. Achayya won the Seniors’ Handicap Stableford (0–24) category, while Retired Major General S.K. Cariappa claimed first place in the Super Seniors’ Stableford (0–24) segment. In the Women’s Net Stableford (0–24) category, Alisha Thimmaiah emerged winner.

Special prizes added further excitement, with M.G. Bopanna winning Closest to the Pin, C.B. Muthanna securing Straightest Drive, Nikhil Poovaiah recognised for the highest number of pars, and Varun Ganapathi honoured for the most birdies.


Prizes were distributed at the valedictory ceremony chaired by senior physician Dr. Malachira C. Subbaiah, with Dr. M.K. Ayyappa of Siddapur as chief guest. Members of the Malachira family and executive committee officials of Coorg Golf Links coordinated the event, which was attended by club captain C.B. Muthanna and several golfers and well-wishers.
